Whither VVS

Read this article on Cricinfo about the future of VVS Laxman. If indeed this turns out to be the last series for VVS then I will be disappointed. There wont be any fun in watching India bat. We have brutal power in the form of Dhoni and Sehwag and some real orthodoxy in Dravid. And with Sachin playing a more defensive role its hard to find a batsman who takes batting into another plane altogether. When Laxman is on song its almost as if the ball is being cajoled to go to the fence and the fielder chasing it thinks he has it covered while he can just look on in agony as the ball keeps getting faster as it goes closer to the boundary.

While Dravid makes you feel that you are listening to something precise like a rendition of one of Beethovens Symphony Laxman on song is like watching a jazz band performing a brilliant number. The brilliance is transient but thats enough to make it worth it.

I hope so he gets a chance to play in the mumbhai test...The way he strokes the ball with a feather like touch is so pleasing

I remember his 178 in the Sydney Test. It really epitomised his class. Sachin looked pedestrian compared to him. Even at the peak of Sachin's powers, I saw Laxman bat and I thought, "Even Sachin can't bat like this." But I think it's the end of the road for Very Very Special.

true...
his lazy elegance is something that is pleasing to watch.

Also, with Laxman out, and Sachin out of form, the middle order looks very ordinary. Its the lower order that is delivering much more than the middle order. I still dont know why are they not taking laxman in. I believed they will do it in the third test, as Indian won the second test with three bowlers (piyush chawla didnt get much chance, what can i say abt Harbhajan ;)), so it would have been logical to take one more batsman, as the batting side didnt make a big score in the first innings. 150/5 seems to be a standard score for india. SO laxman should have been in for the third test.

@Raghu: He didnt get a chance and India paid for it. Yuvraj just threw his wicket in both innings. About "tagged" I have just finshed the long tedious stuff.

@Sunny: Yes that Sudney innings was really out of the ordinary.

@Sreejith: Yes his lazy elegance is a treat. I guess all Hyderabadis are born with it :) Anyways I am not a big fan of all this bullshit about sporting tracks. India should have played 7 batsmen made a track as flat as the ones in Pakistan and made sure that we won the series.
